The Sailing Adventures of Spear It Animal

Spear It Animal is a popular YouTube sailing channel that has captured the attention of adventure enthusiasts worldwide with its authentic portrayal of off-grid boat life. The channel, which launched in August 2020, features the sailing adventures of Sascha Meyers and Rafael Echemendia as they work to restore their hurricane-damaged sailboat and pursue their dream of sailing around the world.[1] [2]

As of June 2025, the channel has grown to over 91,600 subscribers and has uploaded 64 videos documenting their journey.[1] Their content focuses on the raw and unfiltered reality of living aboard a sailboat, including boat restoration, spearfishing, treasure hunting, and the daily challenges of off-grid marine life.[2]

The Creators Behind the Channel

Sascha Meyers

Sascha Meyers hails from Dearborn, Michigan, where she developed an early love for nature and the sea. Growing up surrounded by natural environments, she spent her childhood swimming competitively and gaining early sailing experience on Lake Erie with her family.[2] She studied Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois, graduating in 2018 with initial plans to become a veterinarian. However, her passion for sailing ultimately led her to pursue ocean adventures instead.[2]

Before joining Spear It Animal, Sascha collaborated with her sister Natalie on a YouTube channel called "Sailing The Far Side" in early 2020, where they documented their sailing experiences after reviving their family's old boat.[2]

Rafael Echemendia

Rafael, commonly known as Raff, is a Florida native who developed his love for fishing and boating from an early age. As a child, he helped restore his father's boat and later played football through high school and college before earning a Business degree from the University of Central Florida.[2] To fund his sailing dreams, Raff worked as a house renovation contractor, saving money to purchase his first boat.[2]

The channel originally began with Raff and his friend Ben, but transitioned to featuring Raff and Sascha when Ben sold the boat in October 2022.[2]

A Caribbean Meeting

Sascha and Raff's partnership began with a chance encounter in 2021 in the Bahamas, specifically in Georgetown on Great Exuma Island. Both were already familiar with each other through their respective YouTube channels due to similar content themes.[2] Their first meeting occurred when Raff spotted Sascha playing volleyball on the beach, and they later connected at a local bar. After spending several days together and traveling through the Caribbean for months, they formed both a personal and professional partnership.[2]

Their Sailing Vessel and Restoration Project

The duo's current home is a 50-foot Beneteau Cyclades sailboat that Raff purchased for $120,000 after Ben sold their previous vessel.[2] [3] The boat had significant challenges, having sustained severe hurricane damage from Hurricane Irma, which they discovered during their extensive restoration process.[3]

What was once a charter boat with six cabins and three-and-a-half bathrooms has been completely transformed into a custom off-grid floating home.[3] Their renovation work includes installing a comprehensive solar power system with five 8D Battleborn lithium batteries totaling 1,350 amp hours, a seawater Pro water maker system, and custom storage solutions throughout the vessel.[3]

The couple has also worked with marine industry partners on boat upgrades, including collaborations with TotalBoat for restoration projects. In one documented project, they renovated a dock box using TotalFair Epoxy Fairing Compound, TotalProtect Epoxy Barrier Coat Primer, and Wet Edge Topside Paint.[4]

Content and Community Engagement

Spear It Animal's content spans various categories including lifestyle, hobby, pet, and vehicle content, focusing heavily on their sailing adventures, boat maintenance, and spearfishing activities.[1] The channel has gained recognition within the sailing community, with the creators participating in events like the Annapolis Boat Show and the Ocean Cruisers Odyssey Sailing Festival.[5]

In November 2024, the couple achieved a significant personal milestone when Raff proposed to Sascha during the International Cruisers Awards ceremony, where they were nominated for best YouTube sailing channel of the year.[6] The proposal, which took place on stage, was captured and shared with their audience, demonstrating their commitment to sharing both their adventures and personal moments with their community.[7]

Financial Performance and Monetization

According to analytics data from June 2025, Spear It Animal generates an estimated $221 daily from their YouTube channel, with monthly earnings projected at approximately $6,711 and yearly earnings around $80,533.[1] The channel's estimated net worth as of June 2025 is $47,217, with forecasts suggesting continued growth.[1]

Multiple sources estimate the couple's combined net worth at approximately $270,000 to $300,000, with monthly earnings around $12,500 from various revenue streams including YouTube ad revenue, Patreon subscriptions, merchandise sales, and brand sponsorships.[2] Their monetization strategy includes affiliate partnerships with marine industry companies such as SeaWater Pro, Battle Born Batteries, and Gori Propellers.[5]

The channel's recent content has shown strong engagement, with recent videos receiving between 6,950 and 27,330 daily views, indicating a stable and engaged audience base.[1]

Community Impact and Philanthropy

Beyond their regular content, Spear It Animal has demonstrated commitment to supporting their sailing community during times of crisis. Following Hurricane Beryl's impact on Caribbean islands, the couple organized fundraising efforts and relief supply distribution, using their platform to coordinate aid for affected communities.[8] Their boat was loaded with generators, tools, and relief supplies for delivery to hurricane-affected areas, showcasing their dedication to giving back to the sailing community that supports their channel.[8]
